Those of you who follow my blog will no that I have a very strange relationship with food. I know that sounds odd but it is probably the best way of explaining it.
So I haven’t eaten a take away in well over a year. There is no reason for this, not a health kick or finance, I just haven’t eaten one. Now we are at a stage where if I do buy one they will think they have won (I have no idea what the challenge is by the way and either do they) so I don’t. I kinda fancy one then realise I don’t really.
So this week most of the takeaways locally have either shut or I have forgotten they exist. Of course now I wan’t a takeaway and that leaves only one option, that high street pizza chain that is my neighbour.
To start, I am not a great pizza fan and neither am I fan of this particular franchise. So I had a look the the other night and was aghast that they can charge the thick end of £20 for cheese on toast. Yesterday though was a plan, work late and get a pizza because Nick reliably informs me that it is buy one get one free on Tuesdays.
Now the obvious flaw in this is that whilst it, in theory, reduces the price of a pizza to a more reasonable point that relies on me consuming both (on separate occasions). If the first one is not spot on the likelihood is that the second one will be discarded and we are back to square one!
I did the work late bit and pulled up the shiny pizza ordering app last night, egged on by the ducks who wanted the crust. On the third attempt the order made it to the basket and I made it to the checkout…. I was putting the credit card details in when I realised, again, that I don’t particularly like pizza and this is a rip off. Order cancelled, app deleted and ducks told to shut up.
I thoroughly enjoyed baby potatoes with butter and salt and a bottle of merlot so its their loss not mine. Now I know that the pizza issue will remain in my mind so today I purchased a frozen pizza from the store figuring I will cook it and not really enjoy it and that will get it out of my head.
I am writing this while said pizza cooks but I am not predicting success given I failed the first instruction. I took the pizza out of the fridge as I turned the oven on and instruction one was ‘leave frozen until ready to cook’.
In other news the stock reduction is going well and I should finish another lager line tonight. I can inform all though that drinking a pint of cold, perfectly kept, draught lager is not the experience you are missing it is all of that plus freindseli that is the elixir we need and I can’t wait for its return.
Finally an update on project ‘paint for sanity’. Since there are in fact a myriad of white paints (stop smirking mushroom duck) I realised that I needed some gloss somewhat urgently. The problem here is logistical, if I know that I can get it then I paint one way if I don’t then I paint the other way. If anyone has tried to get paint lately it is rarer than bat soup in chinatown, literally impossible to source.
Something told me that somewhere in the building there was a battered 2.5L tin of gloss and I tracked it down yesterday. Battered does not do it justice it looks like a time capsule from 1960 dug up in a school playground. It was heavy and I gingerly opened the lid to be met with brown oil (remember when gloss was real). After a good stir it turned…..white, now I know what it feels like to win the Lotto because now I have more white paint to paint white painted stuff, this really is my life!
