I met up with some mates at the gym this morning, don’t worry I wasn’t actually indulging in any of that exercise stuff though it was only social. The gym in question is installed in blokes garage, said bloke being an ex military physical trainer so well versed with the kit, the two mates in question carry a few additional stone in padding each so could do with becoming acquainted with it.
If you have pictured a sweat box containing two hard worked men, straining to cope with the work whilst barked at by an ex military monster then you will be wondering why I chose this place to socialise, you will also not have read the title. I was at the gym for a good 90 minutes,we socialised, we drank coffee and the other three guys pretty much chain smoked, did they exercise? Well just a little when the machines got so in the way that they found themselves left with little option. I received an apology for not stopping for sausage sandwiches on the way in, time was tight, and one of my friends admitted that this was the only place he could have sugar in his coffee rather than sweetener. You see that is male logic, smoking and drinking coffee is good for you and can be part of a balanced weight loss regime providing you do it in a gym!
An interesting observation in smokers comes from this experience as well, most of us remember when you could smoke in a pub and in the winter months most smokers bemoan the smoking ban but when you give them the back the freedom to associate and smoke they smoke ten times what they used to. Its not being allowed to smoke that is responsible because it doesn’t happen as much at home, but when you add associating with friends so the consumption increases, I think its the same effect that you see in a busy pub when you call last orders.
