Some, hopefully only a few, of you will know of the aesthesiometer a tool used to measure the sensitivity of skin. The tool is essentially a series of pairs of points set at decreasing distance with the test being the to detect two points and not a single one.
To give an idea of the state of the right hand my last measurements had the left hand at 5mm which is in the region of ‘reduced but operable’ whilst this feels normal to me it means the sensation is aged over my years or to think of it another way permanently just a little numb. Righty however comes in at anything between 7 and 12 mm, this comes with warnings about holding expensive or hot objects!
I have just realised that there is a better test than the two point aesthesiometer, its natural and its readily available for free!
Stubble is a great measure, my right hand says that the 3 day growth on my face is soft and downy like cotton wool, now I know that’s not right but is this another feature of poor health? He’ll no it’s just because righty can’t feel things correctly, a quick test with lefty confirms scratchy bristly stubble and hey we have a simple sensory test!
