Off to meet john this morning who is covering Debs as my physioterrorist, not sure I need to see anyone but given the leaps and bounds I have come on by its worth the trip.
Of course cleverly agreeing to 08.30 vice 9 was not as easy as it looked since the options for the 25 minute vigorous walk were 14 mins or 61 so looks like I will have a very slow amble!
Its a great time in he morning to reflect, as I walked along the dark and brooding promenade I was joyfully looking forward to the new promenade on Monday mornings and even earlier!
Also an opportunity to realise how the modern world is not as efficient as we might like to believe. As I walked past my local co-op which opens at 7 the staff were busily putting newspapers and stock onto shelves (it being 06.30), I walked into my local tesco which opens at 6 and found no newspapers except (perhaps poetically) the weekly local with a front page informing me that ‘controversial new tescos gets go ahead’.
Remember when there was a pre-opening period in shops to get ready for customers? When floor cleaning was done at night and not around customers? Did we lose or gain when we changed?
For me I Ike the old ways, I like the challenge of getting my shopping while the shops are open, I like knowing if I’m not there by x the papers will have gone. And for me closing half of a holiday camp to install another monolithic superstore to feed processed fats into another generation of yawning mouths is yet another reason why I eagerly await the mornings walk along that promenade.
