It’s funny what you learn when you have to. My leg bled through overnight so I called the nurse who is rather busy and has offered to drop off some dressings later.
So I look at the assembled kit and google many of the parts before concluding that the fucibit cream should help, thinly applied but that the general absorbent properties of the Mepore dressings will both act to draw away the fucibit and also grow into the exudate which means tearing on removal.
The conclusion is that a Mepolin dressing pad is better as its non stick and is hygroscopic only in the interleaves thus it does not ‘pull’ from the wound it merely absorbs what reaches it. So Dr Gav’s solution is to use Mepolin and mefix with judicious warming from my hands since mefix adhesive properties are increased with temperature.
First thought is ‘hope this works’ second thought is ‘when in the hell did I become a medical expert?’ Who would have thought that I would be designing dressing systems for my own wounds? Actually, on reflection, it was inevitable really given my history of ignoring the medical profession!
He who dares wins and he who makes it up as he goes along has a pretty good chance too!
