Had a good chat to the manager yesterday who is in the same boat as me at the moment (the one called “waiting”) and I was rather impressed that he has upgraded me from no hope to good chance partly helped by the glowing praises heaped upon me by the girl who looks after the fruit machines (and used to look after mine) cheers Angie!
Then full of joy I telephoned the estate agents and they told me that nothing has changed, they are so frustrated that they read me word for word their report to the receivers which pretty mush says pull your finger out before the buyer does! It’s now 4 weeks since the simple question was asked and still not answered, to make matters worse they expect me to complete on the sale within 4 weeks from their acceptance talk about one rule for one.
So sadly it looks like I will have nothing to announce this side of the weekend, but really it’s nearly here.
I just spoke to my estate agent who tells me that we are getting closer ….. They have spoken to the receiver who confirms F&F is included but the bank are still saying that they are not sure.
Apparently a number of questions have been asked and answered and we are expecting an update today. The estate agent agrees with me that this is now farcical and they are pushing as hard as they can. The agents seem to be in agreement on most points including the fact that we are talking about probably less than £15K worth of tat and not the crown jewels or a designer fittings makes it all a bit academic.
Still got fingers crossed for a yes by the end of week, but which week?
If I have to wait much longer I’m going to ring Orange and get them to test that my cell phone is actually working!
Talk about stressing, I know Bill will be busy working on it and would expect a call from him end of day to let me know how he got on but I am imagining all sorts.
Doesn’t help that the ex tenant told me he is waiting on a call back on his offer that he expects this week, Bill tells me that there are no other offers on the table but like its been at every step I’m nervous and paranoid as hell.
Well its end of business for the day, I’m not going to hear anything from the telephone conference until the morning now.
Its not that Bill won’t be available because, like everyone else involved in this endeavour, he works from his blackberry late. The London office however will have called it a day (as predicted) and won’t update till the morning.
It could be really close people, really need to get a deal signed this week can’t stand the subterfuge any longer.
On a side note I saw a shuttle locomotive parked up in the M1 services (on a low loader) and it reminded me just how long ago we were building the ‘latest and greatest’ high speed train (I was eurostar not eurotunnel). So long ago in fact that I have the details on a load of scrap coming out of their old Depot which they inhabited for only 15 years (built at a cost of £88M) what an insane industry.
Well I had a long chat to Bill this afternoon, thanks Bill for taking the time on your first day back!
It would appear that the root of the issue is that we don’t know who owns the fixtures and fittings, without a title there is nothing to transfer.
It appears that the receivers, the disposal team and the various committees have agreed that the offer is acceptable but, as is the way of everything I do, this is not the end of it. The disposal team won’t release any of the purchase price for fixtures and fittings, not a big problem because nobody has asked them to, and need to assure themselves that there won’t be a future claim.
Had a chat to the manager yesterday and he recounted me with stories that abound of other offers and competition so on a positive note at least there is a plausible explanation for the delay and I can be fairly confident that it is just my offer that’s oh so slowly grinding through the machine.
Well I just took a break from a meeting to pick up an Ipswich numbers voice mail . . . .
It was the estate agent . . . .
There is a meeting tomorrow evening to discuss, need to call him back and ensure that his gun is well and truly loaded because he needs to be shooting down the fixtures and fittings debate!
My agent returns this week and had better be ready for the barrage of calls that are heading his way! Can’t believe that I still don’t have a deal accepted while local knowledge seems to think its a done deal!
I hate the fact that people are gossiping but I don’t actually have anything factual to tell my friends but I guess that’s the trade for you and there has been gossip for some time so people are used to it.
My current internal debate is whether I go all out to the pub or try and cobble something together where I carry on working, the biggest concern is whether the pub can stand a manager during the day given we are trading into the busy summer season. I am sure that when things start moving the debate will be almost self resolving…..
Fantastic to hear that Vicky is in the blogosphere, love reading of their exploits in china and it makes me smile that the word blog is so frowned upon by the authorities over there for your benefit Vicky “blog blog blog blog blog” keep up the good work!
Honorary mention to Dave Green, yes I’m mad but so are you!
